Summary 0000083: System Suse 8.2 stops/crashes while rec. fax
Description HW: EPIA 5000, 256MB, FRITZ PCI (new Version)
Setup: installed again all support programms and capisuite from original Suse 8.2 disks. Run komplete online UPDATE from Suse Server before activating capisuite (because this bug should be fixed after updating). Sent Fax from other client via Capi Fax on ELSA Lancom router office 1000 for test
Makes it any sense to upgrade to Suse 9.1 ??
What test have I to run to find the bug ?

What exactly stops/crashes? Does the whole system hang completely or does only CapiSuite stop working? If the whole system hangs: are there LEDs on the keyboard blinking? If not: what exactly means "stops/crashes"? Is the mouse still working e.g.?

Did you check if CapiSuite was really updated by the online update? What does "rpm -q capisuite" say?

It may also help to update to SuSE 9.1, sure. So if you want to do this nevertheless, then it's definitely worth a try - but it should also work with 8.2 and we can try to hunt down the bug there, too - as you like.

That means:
I have minimized system without mouse, no graphics (X11).
No KBD activities, no Com 1 because USV is not getting any command (DTR is active like before the crash), no TTY works, can not do shutdown with Ctrl-alt-del. It looks like the OS is not working or hanging in a interrupt.
If so, linux would not be a good OS.
The update from the server was without error message.

The capisuite log tells that all was started o.k.
There is no error log for that case.

I am installing Suse 9.1 from scratch. Because the Suse 9.1 bugs, and differences in the package, (no webmin and.. ) and the lausy 190 support on Tuesday it will take a while to get all running. (think is the last SUSE installation for ever)

After that i'l come back with a new Bug note as an status.
o.k. ????

So did the LEDs on the keyboard blink when it hung?

And as I said, we can try to debug this on 8.2 or try 9.1, depends only on you. So I'll wait for your decision...
