Summary 0000094: can't open PDF files attached to mails
Description I have installed SUSE Linux 9.1 Professional and according the included CapiSuiteFax. When a fax arrives it is stored in the file: Var/spool/....../received as fax-1.txt and fax-1.sff. When called through intern mail there apears a text and an appendix called fax-1.pdf. When trying to open with Acrobat Reader, it fails, saying there is "Wrong operand type".
There are a dozen faxes waiting to be read. What can be done?
SUSE refuses help.
Regards, Nick Trudel
Additional Information The program is running on a single place, private PC and is using a FRITZ!Card PCI v.2.0

Did you install all current online updates of SUSE? There was a bug in libtiff preventing some parts of the conversion from working.

I did make a complete online update of SUSE a few days ago but it did not help.
Then I tried with sffview, but no success eighter. From peter.schaefer@gmx.de the author of this program, I was told the the version of it contained in SUSE was bugged and antquated. There is a version 0.3, but I can not find it. Can you give me an adress?

Did you try to safe the pdf file and open it with another program, e.g. "gv"?
If this also doesn't work: could you please attach such a PDF file and its corresponding SFF document to this bug so that I can have a look on it?

To sffview: the version included in SUSE 9.1 may be old, but it should nevertheless work. What exactly didn't work when trying to open a SFF file with it?

BTW: You can find newer versions of sffview on the project homepage on http://sfftools.sourceforge.net/sffview.html. [^] But as I said, the old version should also work - at least basically, i.e. display a fax.

Hmpf, sorry, now I can reproduce your problems with sffview. Will have a look on it.

Thanks for your troubles!
Here enclosed I am sending you one of the faxes as *.sff, such as it arrives under /var/spool/...../received. I could not get out the corresponding *.pdf and send with.
As I said above, Acrobat Reader says that it has a "Wrong operand type" and can no open it.
I will look for a 0.2 version of SFFVIEW, but it should work with Acrobat Reader and the bug is somewhere else, dont you think so?

I'm missing the sff file. Please open this bug in your browser, log in and use the "Upload File" function below the bug details for uploading it.

To the PDF: why can't you send it? It should be possible to safe it directly from within your mail program. In KMail, e.g., you can right click on the attachment icon and choose "save as". (if you can't see the attachment icon, please select "View/Attachments/As Icons" in the menu)

Regarding sffview: this seem to not work in SuLi 9.1. We're having a look on it. Stay tuned...

But nevertheless, creating the PDFs should work...

Both files are 0 bytes in size. Is this also the case on your system?

If not and if you've trouble uploading them, you can also send them to me via private mail and I'll upload them.

in my system, on the ...../received folder the show
    fax-14.sff 50.6KB unbekannt
    fax.14.txt 326B einfacher Text

I will be happy to send them by private mail to you, but I can't send you the whole dozen of faxes waiting and it would not be the solution for the future. Right?
Please give me your adress, I will do so in the afternoon.
Regards Nick
